Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Moving Company Guide collects or receives, how it is used, when it may be shared, and what privacy choices may be available to visitors.

Effective date: August 20, 2026   Last updated: August 24, 2026

Privacy at a Glance

  • There are no visitor accounts. Only site administrators log in, through a separate admin area.
  • You can reach us through the contact form. Messages go into our own database, and — if the message passes basic spam checks — a copy is also sent to Telegram so we see it quickly.
  • Signing up for updates stores your email in our database and notifies us via Telegram. We do not currently send any email to the address you provide.
  • Google Analytics stays off unless you accept optional analytics cookies. If accepted, it measures visits and interactions and may receive technical and usage information.
  • Calculators send the values you enter to our server, as part of the page URL, to compute a result — those values are not written to our database.
  • The Moving Quote Comparison Tool also saves what you type in your browser's local storage so your comparison persists — that copy stays in your browser.
  • Other interactive checklists save only which tasks you've checked off, by a stable task ID — not any text, dates, or amounts you might see nearby.
  • We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.

Information We Receive

Information You Provide

You can choose to give us information directly:

  • Your name, email address, and message, if you use the contact form.
  • Your email address and the page you signed up from, if you sign up for updates.
  • Values you type into a calculator or tool, which are sent to our server to compute your result.

Technical Information

Our web server and application infrastructure automatically process certain technical information for every request, consistent with standard web server behavior. This can include your IP address, the page you requested (including any query parameters, such as values entered into a calculator or search box), the date and time of the request, the HTTP method and status code, the referring page, and your browser's user agent.

Information Stored in Your Browser

Several pages use your browser's local storage rather than sending information to us:

  • Checklist progress. Interactive checklists (including moving checklists, mover-verification steps, budget checklists, and the Moving Timeline Generator) save only the IDs of the tasks you've checked off — not any surrounding text, dates, or amounts.
  • Moving Quote Comparison Tool. This tool saves the values you type — such as mover names, estimate amounts, deposits, and notes — in your browser's local storage, so your comparison is still there if you come back. This stays in your browser; we only receive those values if you use the tool to generate a comparison, at which point they're sent to our server as part of the page URL to produce the result.
  • Moving Templates worksheets. Pages under /templates do not use browser storage at all. They are printed or copied blank and filled in by hand or in your own document.

How We Use Information

  • Respond to messages sent through the contact form.
  • Send the updates you've requested, if you sign up, to the address you provided.
  • Operate the site and deliver the page or calculator result you requested.
  • Maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the site.
  • Help prevent abuse of the site's forms and tools.

We use Google Analytics to understand visits, page usage, and interactions so we can improve the site's content and tools. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising on this site.

Calculators, Checklists and Templates

Calculators

Moving Company Guide's calculators and tools — including the Moving Cost Calculator, Moving Box Calculator, Truck Size Estimator, Moving Timeline Generator, and Moving Quote Comparison Tool — submit the values you enter to our server as part of the page URL so the server can compute your result. These values are not written to our database. The Moving Quote Comparison Tool additionally saves what you enter in your browser's local storage; see "Information Stored in Your Browser" above.

Checklists

Interactive checklists save only the IDs of tasks you've checked off, in your browser's local storage, so your progress persists between visits without being sent to us.

Templates

The printable and copyable worksheets under /templates do not use browser storage and do not send entered information to our server.

Cookies and Local Storage

Cookies

Google Analytics stays off unless you select "Accept analytics" in the consent banner. After acceptance, Google Analytics may set cookies on public pages to distinguish visits and measure site usage. A separate session cookie is used only in the site's administrative login area and is not used for public visitor analytics.

Local Storage

Certain pages use your browser's local storage to save checklist progress (stable task IDs only) or, for the Moving Quote Comparison Tool, the values you've typed into that specific tool. When analytics is configured, local storage also records whether you accepted or rejected analytics, under the key mcg:analytics-consent:v1, so the site can respect your choice on later visits. Local storage stays on your device and is cleared if you clear your browser's data or use the relevant Reset, Clear, or Cookie settings control.

Session Storage

We do not currently use session storage.

Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics on public pages to measure visits, pages viewed, referrers, device and browser characteristics, and interactions with the site. Google may process identifiers and IP-address-derived information as part of providing this service. The Google Analytics tag is not loaded before you accept and is never loaded in the administrative area.

Google Analytics handles this information under Google's Privacy Policy. Analytics data is retained according to the settings of our Google Analytics property and Google's applicable policies.

Contact Forms and Communications

When you send a message through the contact form, we store the name, email address, and message you provide in our database so we can read and respond to your inquiry. If the message passes basic spam checks, we also send a copy to a private Telegram channel so we see it quickly — see "Service Providers and Sharing" below. When you sign up for updates, we store the email address you provide along with the page you signed up from, and we send a notification to the same private Telegram channel so we know you signed up. We do not currently send any email to that address — there is no automated newsletter-delivery mechanism in place yet.

To reduce spam, the contact form uses a hidden field that real visitors never fill in and a check on how quickly the form was submitted. Both checks use only the submission itself — not your IP address, a cookie, or a tracking service. Messages that trip these checks are either not stored at all or are stored but not forwarded to Telegram.

Service Providers and Sharing

Service providers may process limited information on our behalf to operate infrastructure, email, analytics, security, or other active services. The table below lists every third-party service provider actually wired into the site today; if a new one becomes active, this policy will name it and what it processes at that time.

Active third-party service providers
ProviderPurposeInformation it receives
TelegramNotify the site operator when a contact-form message (that passes basic spam checks) or a newsletter signup is submittedname, email address, message, newsletter signup email
Google AnalyticsMeasure visits, page usage, and interactions on public pages after consentIP address, device and browser information, page URLs, referrer, site interactions

We do not sell personal information. We do not have active advertising or affiliate-tracking relationships to share it with. See the Affiliate Disclosure page for this site's current, inactive affiliate status.

Data Retention

Retention depends on the type of information, operational need, and applicable requirements. In practice:

  • Contact messages and newsletter signups are kept in our database; there is no automated deletion schedule configured. Contact us if you'd like one removed.
  • Infrastructure request logs are retained as part of standard server operation.
  • Google Analytics data collected after consent is retained according to the settings of our Analytics property and Google's applicable policies.
  • Information in your browser's local storage (checklist IDs, saved Quote Comparison values, and the analytics consent preference) stays until you clear it yourself, using the relevant Reset, Clear, or Cookie settings control or your browser's own storage settings.

Security

We use technical and organizational measures intended to protect the site and the information processed through it. Administrative account passwords are stored using industry-standard hashing rather than in plain text, and the site sends security-related HTTP headers — including Content-Security-Policy, X-Frame-Options, X-Content-Type-Options, Referrer-Policy, and a restrictive Permissions-Policy — intended to reduce common web risks. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

External Websites

Moving Company Guide links to external websites, including government resources, consumer-protection agencies, and other moving-industry sources referenced throughout our guides. These external sites have their own privacy practices, and this policy does not govern them. Review the privacy policy of any external site before providing information to it.

Privacy Choices and Requests

Privacy rights and choices can depend on where you live and which laws apply to you. Analytics is rejected by default. Use the consent banner to accept or reject it, and use "Cookie settings" in the footer at any time to change or withdraw your choice. Rejecting analytics prevents the Google tag from loading on later page loads and removes accessible Google Analytics cookies from this site; you can also clear cookies through your browser settings. If you'd like us to access, correct, or delete information you've submitted through the contact form or newsletter signup — or you have another privacy question — contact us and we will respond. Clearing your browser's local storage removes checklist progress, saved Moving Quote Comparison Tool values, and any stored analytics preference from that browser; the relevant pages also include their own controls.

Children's Privacy

Moving Company Guide is a general moving-planning resource and is not designed specifically for children. We do not knowingly direct the site or its contact and newsletter forms at children, and we don't have a mechanism for verifying a user's age. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We update the Last Updated date above only when we make a substantive change to this policy — for example, if we add a new form, change how a tool handles information, or begin using a new service provider. The date does not change simply because the site is redeployed. The current version of this policy is always published at this page.

Contact Us

If you have questions about this policy or how your information is handled, use our contact form. We read every message submitted there.
