Moving Company Crew Arrested

Moving company crew being questioned in ODOT stingTwo men were arrested last week during a moving company sting operation organized by Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). Nine uncertified moving companies were hired by undercover ODOT officers to move belongings out of a Southeast Portland house, but found representatives from the ODOT, the Better Business Bureau and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office waiting for them instead. The nine companies that received citations (some of them repeat offenders) for operating without a household goods certificate were:

Papajack PDX Moving Company, 29589 SW Serenity Way, Wilsonville OR 97070
Handy Haulers Moving Company, 10260 SW Greenburg Rd, Suite 400, Portland, OR 97223
Clear Choice Movers, 5133 A NE 89 Ave, Multnomah, OR 97220
Robert Murphy-Hendrix, 2136 NE Weidler, Apt 2, Portland, OR 97232
Portland Movers Ready, 4048 NE 122nd Ave, Portland, OR 97230
Labor Helpers, Address unknown
The Delivery Guys, 9655 SW Mckenzie, Suite 12, Portland, OR 97223
Budget Movers, 14180 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton, OR 97005
Portland Student Movers, 1105 SW 66th Ave, Portland, OR 97225

Violation can result in a $1,000 fine and a $435 citation which is clearly insufficient to deter rogue companies.

Nicholas Oetken was arrested when deputies learned he had an existing warrant out for his arrest following a parole violation. Tyler William Gilbert was arrested after deputies learned that he was wanted for failure to appear for a traffic violation and that he was currently driving without insurance and with a suspended license.

Deputies also discovered a registered sex offender and a man who had just smoked pot among the moving company crews.
