Three Portland Area Moving Companies Cited

Three Portland area moving companies have been cited this week by Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies and Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) compliance officers. In a well executed sting ODOT responded to a number of online advertisements and used a decoy house to lure illegal movers. Cited and warned were Northwest Student Movers, Portland’s Family Movers and Easy Family Movers. All three companies were operating in Clackamas County without licenses. To be certified, movers must have insurance and their employees must undergo criminal background checks. An employee of one company was found to have a drug conviction on his record. Dave Thompson, ODOT spokesman said “Illegal household goods movers often advertise on websites or bulletin boards, offering to help people move for a fee. Many consumers don’t realize these companies don’t have legal operating authority or insurance and in some cases safe vehicles and drivers.”
