Moving Company Employee or Contractor? Ask!

There was an enlightening moving company complaint on RipoffReport this week.

GPS Moving And StorageAn anonymous consumer gave a very detailed account of their move in which GPS Moving and Storage contracted out the collection of their belongings to another moving company. The subcontractor arrived late with his wife and two sons one of whom was under 16. Clearly this was not going to be a professional job and so it proved. The consumer gives many examples of bad packing and handling including; a record player that was completely crushed as a result of having a heavy foot massager packed on top, a dropped media center, broken glass and damaged family heirlooms.

The consumer claims that subsequent communication with GPS Moving has been problematic with emails taking a week to get a response and a completed claim form that has not been acknowledged for nearly two months.

Subcontracting is not unusual in the moving industry and will often result in two companies blaming each other for any problems that arise and the only one to suffer is the disgruntled consumer.

Always check with your prospective mover that the team that will be performing your move are employees of the company and not contractors.
