Green Moving

The Open Box Moving SolutionsOver a year ago we suggested that one of the criteria you can use to tell a good moving company is look at how they engage with the community. Our previous examples mostly centered around activities like Move For Hunger but there are now several eco-friendly moving companies that have appeared and may be worth including in your shortlist.

Take for example Open Box Moving Solutions in Asheville, NC. with their Green Move program.

  • They only use moving trucks operating on EPA certified Bio-diesel to reduce their carbon footprint.
  • They use Eco Boxes made from recycled plastic to replace cardboard boxes and reduce waste.
  • They use their own Bio fill packaging peanuts which are 100% compostable and contain nutrients so they can be used in the garden.
  • They use eco-friendly padded wrapping and clients get a choice between biodegradable recycled paper mesh padding or 100% recycled bubble wrap.
  • They have a free Salvation Army drop off service where clients choose which unwanted items they would like to donate to charity and at the end of the move they load the unwanted items and deliver them to a local drop off location.
  • They plant a tree, for every client moved.

Now you may not care too much about green issues but committed companies like this are more likely to go the extra mile for their clients if they are going the extra mile for the environment.

This doesn’t mean that if a moving company claims to be Green you can miss out on doing the basic research as recommended here but it could well point you in their direction.
